Businesses track sustainable development goals contributionDec 13, 2017
Port Moresby, 12 December 2017 - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has partnered with the Business Council of Papua New Guinea to prepare a platform that maps business engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals.
The dashboard, which will be presented online, has been prepared by SocialCops, an Indian based data analytics company, to provide a one stop shop for business engagement with SDGs, and will provide a unique fingerprint of how businesses are contributing to the SDGs.
So far seven companies have signed up to participate.
“Businesses are the biggest driver of poverty reduction. Business are already contributing a lot. By harnessing their strength to create employment, wealth and solutions to local and global challenges, we will go a long way to achieving the SDGs.
“Following the experience of previous international goals and learning from their lessons, we can only succeed when all partners are involved, and this includes the private sector” said Roy Trivedy, UNDP Resident Representative.
Over 9,000 companies have signed up to the SDGs globally through Global Compact, a voluntary initiative based on company commitments to implement universal sustainability principles and to undertake partnerships in support of the SDGs. In Papua New Guinea the Business Council and UNDP have gone one step further to develop a methodology that provides a unique finger print of business engagement with the SDGs
“This a global first, Papua New Guinea is leading the way in designing a methodology that maps private sector contributions to sustainable and inclusive growth in Papua New Guinea. This initiative continues to place Papua New Guinea as an emerging global leader in Sustainable Development,” said Robert Nilkare Business Council of PNG President.
The dashboard will go on line in late December and will continue to be developed with new companies added throughout 2018.
