Port Moresby, 20 June 2019– The communities of Pomio District, East New Britain are gaining momentum in their efforts to break into new global markets with their local cocoa products.
Many low-income working families in Papua New Guinea struggle to manage everyday cash flow. A lack of savings to buffer against financial woes, such as emergency medical bills, traditional obligations, such as burials and other unexpected life expenses can drive families to resort to these moneylenders. Over time borrowers find it hard to break out of the recurring cycle of pay-day lending, often referred to as a loan trap.
Arawa, Bougainville, 01st July 2019 – As part of an ongoing joint initiative between the National Government and the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supported the Second Joint Referendum Awareness Roadshow from the 14th – 18th June in the Autonomous Regional of Bougainville (ARoB).
The Papua New Guinea’s Phones Against Corruption initiative driven by the finance department and supported by UNDP have received regional and global attention as one of most innovative approach to fight corruption.
