Port Moresby, 5 April 2019— Two young people from Papua New Guinea will travel to the United Nations Headquarters in New York next week to attend the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, taking place between 8th and 9th April 2019.
The impacts of climate change will only grow. Among those first affected are the communities of Papua New Guinea. Despite the sceptics and critics, much is being done to respond. Led by Government, partners like the UNDP are doing their bit to support these efforts.

Buka, Bougainville, 15tt April 2019 – As part of a joint initiative supported by the National Coordination Office for Bougainville Affairs, and the Autonomous Bougainville Government, UNDP and UN Women supported a Media Dialogue in Buka from the 8th – 13th April. 18 participants from all major news outlets, national and local, attended the 5 day training in Bougainville last week.
Port Moresby, 4tt March 2019 - The United Nations (UN) in Papua New Guinea congratulates the Government of Papua New Guinea and the Autonomous Bougainville Government for jointly confirming a date for the Bougainville Referendum.
16 December 2018: “I was among other kids watching a movie out in the field when the Police Officer rushed to us and instructed to run to the hill top because of a tsunami warning. I remember that children and women started to cry and men looked confused because they didn’t know what to do,” 57-year-old Rodney Gimis recounts an event that happened 47 years ago, in 1971, in Sohano island, Papua New Guinea.
Port Moresby, 12 March 2019 – Political and technical representatives of the Government of Papua New Guinea and the Autonomous Bougainville Government came together in Port Moresby on 4-5 March 2019 to discuss the process of dialogue between the two governments so as to ensure the best methods of addressing post-referendum issues.
